4.9-Magnitude Quake Shakes Northwest NV

A moderate earthquake hit northwest Nevada late Tuesday night, but there were no reports of damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude-4.9 tremor hit around 11:30 p.m., about 190 miles north of Carson City. The USGS says the Black Rock Desert area has had several minor quakes in the last few months.  Nevada is the third most seismically active state in the nation behind California and Alaska.
