Sheriff Okayed To Get Constable Duties

Clark County commissioners on Tuesday unanimously approved an agreement allowing the county sheriff to take over the duties of the Las Vegas Township constable’s office in January. The office will be abolished when Constable John Bonaventura’s term ends on Jan. 4, 2015.

Commissioners abolished the office in March 2013 after Bonaventura was involved in several controversies. Under the plan, the sheriff will take charge and can re-hire current constable deputies or hire new ones. Constables handle evictions and serve court papers. Officials say the goal is a smooth transition with uninterrupted services.
