A judge in Clark County Wednesday denied a request from Nevada’s attorney general to temporarily shut down ride-sharing company Uber. U.S. District Court Judge Douglas Herndon denied the order sought by the Nevada Transportation Authority, saying Uber doesn't pose immediate risks to public safety.
Herndon also appeared to agree with Uber attorneys that Nevada sought the order against the wrong company. Uber attorneys point out that the company's wholly owned subsidiary Rasier is the business that licenses Uber software, contracts with the drivers and maintains insurance policies.
Nevada regulators have attempted to shut down Uber since it launched Friday and have impounded at least 15 cars. Two judges in northern Nevada have approved the state's request for temporary orders calling for Uber to stop in their counties.
