In a letter on the CCSD website, school superintendent Pat Skorkowsky responded to parents' criticism of proposed changes to the sex ed curriculum, saying he "regrets ... that we did not open these initial input sessions to the general public."
Community and board members criticized the district for its secretive talks about the curriculum changes. The guidelines were originally presented at invitation-only community meetings. The district currently has an abstinence-based system.
CCSD still plans to change the curriculum. "I have instructed my staff to move forward with this discussion in a way that is respectful, open and collaborative."
