Las Vegas Visitor Numbers Up

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said Friday that 3.5 million travelers visited the area last month, up 5.1 percent compared with the same month last year. Travelers filled almost 88 percent of the region's hotel rooms in August, paying an average of $111 a night. Occupancy was up 3.4 percentage points. The average daily hotel rate climbed 6 percent.

More conventions and meetings were held but attendance dropped 8.3 percent. Officials noted the big Las Vegas Market furniture show was in July this year and August last year. The number of airport travelers grew 3.4 percent, to 3.7 million passengers.
