U.S. Sen. Harry Reid says Clark County will get $1.5 million in federal emergency funds to help pay for repairing flood damage on Interstate 15 northeast of Las Vegas. Reid's announcement came Tuesday, with county lawmakers considering a disaster declaration and road crews continuing a $5 million job to repair a washed-out stretch of I-15 near Moapa.
One lane has been opened in each direction on the key route between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. But northbound trucks still face daytime detours onto a route adding 50 miles and several hours to their trip. County officials have tallied 139 damaged homes after floods last Monday in Moapa, Overton and Logandale, and more than $1 million in public road damage in the rural Moapa Valley and Sandy Valley areas.
