Writer Explores 'Cigar City Mafia'

We say the mob as if there were only ever one mob. In fact, there were numerous families that operated in much the same way within their own communities.

The New York and Chicago families are probably the most famous, but other cities had organized crime controlled by one leader and his group. Tampa, Florida was one.

But because of its proximity Cuba, before the Cuban Revolution in 1960, that branch of the mob was also heavily involved in Cuban casinos and even ran guns to Fidel Castro as he launched his Marxist revolution.

The Mob Museum has been taking a look at the Havana connection and author Scott Deitche will be speaking this Saturday at the Mob Museum.
