Much of Nevada is under a flash flood watch as unseasonably cool weather pushes rain across the region on the heels of one of the state's hottest Julys ever. Flooding closed some streets in northwest Las Vegas during the Monday morning commute.
The flash flood watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Monday in parts of Clark and Nye counties, and in northern Nevada in parts of Elko, Lander, Eureka and Humboldt counties.
The National Weather Service says Winnemucca, in Northern Nevada, recorded its warmest monthly average temperature on record in July at 77.5 degrees. And Sunday was the coolest August 3 ever measured in Death Valley at 89 degrees, shattering the old record of 104 set in 1945.
