More Nevadans Coming Forward To Claim Abandoned Property

More Nevadans are coming forward to claim abandoned property from the state. The state treasurer's office recently published its annual unclaimed property list. That's led to more than 11,000 people coming forward to claim property in the month of June, an increase from the 4,600 last June. Nevada officials maintain a database with a list of things such as uncashed payroll checks, unreturned utility deposits and unused gift certificates. When a business can't track down the rightful owner after three years they return the assets to the state.

Nevada's unclaimed property division is currently safeguarding about $650 million in property. It returned about $35 million in assets last year. Residents can search the database by visiting the Nevada treasurer's website.
