The record-breaking heat in northern Nevada this week also helped set a record for power usage on a single day. NV Energy says its customers cranked up the air conditioners Monday when the mercury climbed to 105 degrees. The utility's 327,000 customers in northern Nevada used a total of 1,761 megawatts. That broke the previous single-day record of 1,743 megawatts set in 2007.
An NV Energy spokeswoman says they actually borrowed electricity for the first time ever from southern Nevada.
