Here's a chance to own a piece of history. The famous Golden Rooster that spent half a century at the Nugget in Sparks is up for auction and could fetch up to $300,000. The Reno-Gazette Journal reports the 14-pound rooster sculpture made of 18-karat gold was recently removed from the hotel-casino.
It is going to auction July 26th at Peppermill. The sculpture was unveiled in the Nugget's Golden Rooster Room in 1958 but federal agents charged the casino with violating a law prohibiting anyone from possessing more than 50 ounces of gold unless deemed art.
