A number of cases are now running in the federal courts seeking to overturn state bans on same-sex marriage but on Wednesday, the first federal appeals court ruled that same-sex marriage bans were unconstitutional. The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals struck down Utah's ban, saying that marriage was a fundamental right of all citizens and did not depend, as the state had argued, on procreation.
Other cases including the challenge to Nevada's ban on same-sex marriage are waiting decisions and the issue may well end up at the United States Supreme Court. So what does this case mean? And when will we know about Nevada's ban?
