City Leaders Struggle To Get A Grasp On Public Drunkenness

Las Vegas city leaders may impose tougher penalties for liquor stores on Fremont Street in order to get more control over public drunkenness. City council members are considering fines of up to $500 for stores that don't seal liquor in bags. Metro officers say they believe much of the public drunkenness problems are due to people drinking alcohol immediately after buying it in liquor stores on Fremont. A few store owners have complained that the city is unfairly targeting them. One store is suing the city over the crackdown.
