Church Threatens To Excommunicate Equal Rights Campaigner

Kate Kelly is a founder of the group Ordain Women. The women are pushing for the church to admit women to the priesthood, which has thus far been limited to men. So far, the group is best known for its protest of 500 women seeking admission to the meeting of the priesthood at the church's general conference. Kelly says that she is a faithful Mormon and that there is nothing in Mormon tradition that that requires women to be excluded.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not, she points out, have a closed canon. That has not stopped her former local Bishop in Northern Virginia from instituting "disfellowship" and excommunication proceedings against Kelly. We ask her why this is happening now and what she will do if she is excluded from the church.
