Groups Fight Development At Tahoe Basin

Two environmental groups continue their fight against development in the Lake Tahoe region. The Sierra Club and Friends of the West Shore are appealing an April decision by U.S. District Judge John Mendez of Sacramento to uphold the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s regional plan. That plan allows for another 3,200 residential units and 200,000 square feet of new commercial floor space at the Tahoe Basin.

The environmental groups claim the agency’s plan fails to analyze the negative impact on soil, water and air quality. Officials with the TRPA say they will continue with their plan that took a decade to complete.
