The Aviator's Wife

How do you fictionalize history? Melanie Benjamin has written novels - fictional treatments - of some of the most famous names in history: Alice of Alice in Wonderland and Lavinia Mercy Warren Bump, better known as Mrs. Tom Thumb. Her latest book is a first-person narrativeof the life of Anne Morrow Lindbergh, the wife of the 1920s hero Charles Lindbergh. So why are historical women such fascinating characters? And what are the traps and pitfalls of writing about women who we think we know so well? We ask Benjamin ahead of her appearance at the Clark County Library on Thursday evening.
