Michael Fournier on Punk Rock

Michael Fournier was a New Hampshire teenager heading to Sunday church when he heard his first Sex Pistols album.  He attended service that day, but the music changed the rest of his life.  Fournier writes music reviews and taught a punk rock course at Tufts University.  His books reflect the changing attitudes of the punk rock and indie music scenes - both mocking their hypocrisy, and praising them for changing the social attitudes of the day.  He also turned one of the fictional bands in his book into reality: that real-life band is now set to perform with J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.  Michael Fournier talks to us about punk rock, and its place in the music world today.

Michael Fournier reads with local band Coastwest Unrest on Friday, March 9, at Blackbird Studios at 8 p.m.
