AmeriCorps Nevada Funding

Every year, the Nevada AmeriCorps program employees 200 people, who serve at 52 nonprofits and organizations around the state. The volunteers provide services such as outreach to the homeless, after-school programs and preserve wilderness areas. But the program's funding is in danger. The state legislature failed to provide the required state contribution to the program, meaning it can't receive any federal funding. We talk with the program's CEO, Shawn Lecker-Pomaville, as well as an alumni of the program, Joe Huerta, and also Sarah Valentine, Volunteer Services Assistant with the Friends of Red Rock Canyon.
