Counting the Homeless

As a local committee on homelessness plans to count the number of people in Clark County who are without a place to live, some thoughts on the language of describing the issue from Dave Ross.

Volunteers will gather at central locations where they will pick up assignments, grid maps and instructions. Service providers estimate about 14,500 homeless people live in Southern Nevada.

To volunteer for the count, call Michele Fuller-Hallauer, continuum of care coordinator for the committee, at 455-5188 or e-mail her at mhf@co.clark.nv.us. For more information, visit www.HelpHopeHome.org

NOTE

The ordinance banning feeding of the homeless in Las Vegas was overturned in court at the end of 2006 as unconstitutional. The city is working on a new ordinance, but it's not clear when it will come back to the Las Vegas Council.
