The governing board of the University and Community College System of Nevada today for the first time approved an interim chancellor that's not a professional educator. James Rogers has a background in law, is a media mogul, a major donor to the system and offered to do the job for free. He's even paying his own staff. KNPR's Ky Plaskon caught Rogers right after stepping into the position and spoke to him about his goal of drawing more private donors.
The Board of Regents is searching nation-wide for a permanent Chancellor. For now, Rogers or the Board may terminate their contract with 30 day's notice.
