2 Democrats Appointed To Vacant Seats In Nevada Statehouse

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Clark County Commission appointed new state lawmakers to fill the seats of two Democrats who resigned in January before the start of the 2021 legislative session.

Las Vegas native Fabian Doñate will succeed former state Sen. Yvanna Cancela, who resigned to take a position in the Biden administration.

Disabilities advocate Tracy Brown-May will succeed former Assemblyman Arthur Assefa, who resigned amid a probe into his campaign filings. Charges have not yet been filed against Assefa.

The appointments expand Democrats' majorities in both chambers and give them a full roster one day after the Legislature reconvened for the 2021 session.
