Newborn Found In Bushes Near Las Vegas Apartments, Mother Sought

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas asked for help to identify the mother of newborn girl found crying in a trash bag at an apartment complex during the weekend.

Lt. Ray Spencer told reporters Tuesday the baby, who is Black, was hospitalized after being found Sunday with her umbilical cord still attached.

She was apparently healthy and is expected to survive.

Spencer stresses the existence of a no-questions-asked "safe haven" law in Nevada that lets parents leave a child under 30 days old at a hospital, fire station or emergency care facility without facing arrest or prosecution.

It's not immediately clear if this baby's mother will face criminal charges.
