Two Republican Candidates Ask For New Election

Two Republicans who lost their contests are asking a court to throw out all of the results in Clark County, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Congressional candidate for District 4 Jim Marchant and State Senate candidate April Becker want a new election. In the lawsuits filed Monday, the candidates said the use of a signature verification machine violated state law.

Marchant lost his race to Rep. Steven Horsford by more than 16,000 votes, while Becker lost to State Senator Nicole Cannizzaro by 631 votes.

The lawsuits cited the Clark County Commission District C race, which was decided by just 10 votes, but the Clark County Election Department identified 139 discrepancies.

The county registrar said that is the only race where discrepancies were greater than the margin of victory.

Republicans had in recent weeks unsuccessfully filed lawsuits challenging the use of the machines, claiming it violates state law about how signatures must be reviewed.
