LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's largest electricity provider is asking customers in its northern and southern areas to conserve electricity during the afternoon and evening on both Tuesday and Wednesday to help the power grid cope with a heat wave continuing across much of the West.
NV Energy asked customers to take steps such as turning off lights and pool pumps, raising thermostat settings and not using dishwashers and other large appliances between 2 and 9 p.m.
The utility said conserving energy is the best way to prevent the region's energy supply shortage "from escalating into a more serious reliability problem."
