LOS ANGELES (AP) — Firefighters are still battling two major blazes that have burned for at least a week and destroyed homes in Southern California.

The Stagecoach Fire in Kern County has charred more than 12 square miles of dry brush since breaking out Aug. 3. The blaze has destroyed 40 structures, including 15 residences. The fire was 77 percent contained as of Monday night.

The cause is under investigation. Four homes have been destroyed by the Apple Fire burning in mountains east of Los Angeles. As of Monday night, it was 50% contained.  Evacuation warnings have been lifted.
