Nevada Added Back 90,000 Jobs In June, But Troubles Not Over

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada added back nearly 90,000 jobs and the unemployment rate improved to 15% in June.

State figures released Wednesday show the unemployment rate ticking down from 25.3% in May after businesses began re-opening from closures meant to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Nearly 73,000 of the new jobs were in the leisure and hospitality sector, which was hit hard with the closure of hotels and casinos.

Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation Chief Economist David Schmidt says Nevada in June recovered nearly half the jobs it lost during the spring, but business restrictions will likely affect the job market for several months.
