K-9 For University Of Nevada, Reno Dies While On The Job

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A police dog with the University of Nevada, Reno has died.

The black Labrador named Bonnie was sniffing for evidence related to a shooting when she was struck by a vehicle after walking into the roadway.

The university says she was taken to an animal hospital where she died Thursday. She worked with Officer Tom Emmons who has said she had a way of "stealing your heart at first contact."

Bonnie specialized in detecting explosives. Emmons has said she was a regular dog at home that loved to play with squeak toys.
