DMV Allows More Drivers To Renew Licenses Online, Through Mail

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles will allow most motorists to renew their driver’s license or ID card online or by mail starting this fall.

Drivers 65 and older, who must renew their license in-person, will have a one-year extension to make that renewal for the rest of the year, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

The DMV said the new measure would let the 75,000 residents whose license or ID expires this year avoid going to a DMV office during the coronavirus pandemic.

The agency said it would also help the DMV help those who need car registrations or other services that have to be done in person more quickly.

Nevadans who have held a valid state license or ID card for eight years will be able to renew once online or thru the mail, meaning they’d only have to visit a DMV office to renew in person once every 16 years. The DMV plans to make this permanent.
