RENO, Nev. (AP) — A rural Nevada church wants a federal appeals court to overturn the state's COVID-19 cap on religious gatherings.
It says the cap treats them more severely than casinos and other secular activities in violation of the Constitution. Calvary Chapel Dayton Valley wants the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to temporarily invalidate a 50-person limit on churches while it considers whether to strike it down permanently.
A judge in Las Vegas refused a similar request for the third time last week. The church wants to be subject to the same rules limiting crowds to 50% of capacity at casinos, restaurants and theme parks.
