Nevada is expecting an economic shortfall of $812 million for the fiscal year ending June 30.
On Tuesday, Governor Steve Sisolak called for spending cuts to help fill the hole in the budget caused by the coronavirus. Some of the proposed adjustments include cutting $67 million from spending on higher education and health services and canceling $49 million in expected tech upgrades and other expenditures that were approved by lawmakers last year.
The state’s rainy-day fund has already been drained of $401 million due to revenue shortages. The legislative Interim Finance Committee is set to review the proposals on Friday.
