Fewer Nevadans File For Unemployment In May

Fewer people were unemployed in May than in April, according to new data from the state.

An estimated 25 percent of Nevada’s workforce was unemployed in May, down from 30 percent in April, according to data released by the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Despite the improvement, the Nevada numbers are nearly double the national rate.

Meanwhile, DETR says it will shut down two of its websites and its call centers Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. because of a network upgrade that will affect most state agency websites.

Not expected to be affected is the federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance system or the PUA Call Center.
