Testing for COVID-19 is ramping up in Nevada’s prisons after three inmates at the High Desert State Prison tested positive.
The Nevada Department of Corrections said that all staff and inmates at High Desert, about 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas, would be tested starting Tuesday.
Widespread testing in the prison system is slated to begin Wednesday, with 5,000 tests distributed to medical staff.

The testing system was developed by the state Department of Health and Human Services and the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory.
The laboratory will provide the testing and can handle about 500 people a day.
