Flash Flooding Kills 2 Sisters, Ages 7 And 3, In Utah Canyon

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Two sisters ages 7 and 3 have died in flash flooding that sent torrents of water roaring into a narrow canyon in the Utah desert.

Authorities said Tuesday that at least 21 others escaped the flooding in Little Wildhorse Canyon.

The older girl's body was found by her father shortly after the flooding on Monday afternoon. Her sister's remains were found the next day after dozens of searchers combed the area for hours.

The canyon is considered a family-friendly hike with curving, colorful walls, but it can turn dangerous when desert rains flow over the hard earth and quickly fill the narrow canyons.
