LAS VEGAS (AP) — A pop-up tent complex is opening in Las Vegas to provide temporary shelter, monitoring and treatment for up to 500 homeless coronavirus patients who need quarantine or isolation but not hospitalization.
The $6 million project, resembling an Army field hospital, was declared ready on Monday after two weeks of construction at downtown's Cashman Center.
The opening came as Nevada health officials reported nearly 3,000 diagnosed COVID-19 cases statewide, with at least 114 deaths.

Officials say the tent complex isn't a walk-up homeless shelter, but a place for ambulance deliveries of people who've been exposed, have symptoms or are confirmed to have the COVID-19 respiratory illness.
