Nye County Commissioners Voice Concerns About State Lockdown

Nye County commissioners voiced concerns for small businesses and the economy in rural Nevada during the coronavirus pandemic, during a commission meeting Tuesday.

Commission Chair John Koenig is a part of the county’s COVID-19 Task Force.

“We have been discussing re-opening Nye County and will continue to discuss that. And joining with White Pine and the rest of the rurals, we’ll be getting to the governor and saying, ‘the rurals are definitely not Las Vegas; we are not Reno. We have different needs; we operate differently, and we know you don’t like us, but we want to re-open,’” he said.

Other commissioners agreed with the chair, suggesting President Trump’s guidelines for easing coronavirus-related restrictions are better suited to rural Nevada than Governor Steve Sisolak’s directives for the state.
