Legislative Committee Approves Millions In Emergency Funds

The Nevada Legislature’s Interim Finance Committee unanimously approved $6.25 million in emergency funds for the state to purchase personal protection equipment for health care workers and COVID-19 testing kits.

They also approved $2 million to help Nevadans who can’t pay their rent because of the economic upheaval caused by COVID-19.

Gov. Steve Sisolak has issued a moratorium on evictions in Nevada during the pandemic emergency, but the state anticipates a spike in evictions once the emergency is over, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

The $2 million comes from funds Nevada received as part of a 2018 settlement with Wells Fargo for violating consumer protection laws.

It will go to the United Way of Southern Nevada and the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra for use by the Emergency Food and Shelter Program.
