Police Allowed To Search Apt. Owner's Phone For Fire Investigation

Las Vegas police have gained legal approval to retain the cell phone of the Alpine Motel Apartments’ owners and search it as part of an investigation into a fire in December that killed six people.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports authorities took possession of Adolfo Orozco’s phone last month under a search warrant.

Orozco’s lawyer requested permission to review any probable cause arguments laid out in sealed affidavits, but the district judge rejected the motion Thursday.

The judge said police will search the device for material specifically related to the downtown fire and created or accessed between last June and the end of January.
