McCarran Air Traffic Tower Remains Closed, Flights Canceled And Delayed

Flight operations at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport are still in a slowdown because the air traffic control tower remains closed.

The tower closed last week when an air traffic controller tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Federal Aviation Administration closed the tower to have it cleaned and disinfected.

Tracing contacts, self-quarantine, and evaluation are continuing for FAA employees with connections to the tower, according to the FAA’s website.

Flight operations are being handled by the Las Vegas Terminal Radar Approach Control.

Because of the air tower closure and decrease in demand from travelers due to the virus, Southwest Airlines has canceled hundreds of flights through McCarran, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Southwest Airlines is the airport's largest carrier.
