New Park Opens In Honor Of Fallen Metro Officer

Las Vegas has opened a new city park named for a police officer killed in the line of duty in 2014.

The 10-acre park named after Beck features a lacrosse field, soccer fields, basketball court and a shaded playground with benches for families. The new park is in the city's far northwest side near the Skye Canyon development.

The numerous officials and dignitaries who attended the dedication ceremony Friday for Officer Alyn Beck Memorial Park on Friday included Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak, Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, head of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Beck and another officer, Igor Soldo, were killed while having lunch at a restaurant in June 2014.

They were shot by a man and woman who then went across the street to a Walmart where they ended up killing a civilian who tried to stop them from shooting inside the store.

The couple eventually died in a gunfight with other officers.
