Carson City Supervisors OK Hemp-Growing Moratorium

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Carson City officials have temporarily halted any applications for marijuana projects while a policy on hemp growing inside city limits is drafted.

The Nevada Appeal reported that the Board of Supervisors placed a moratorium Thursday on growing the crop in Carson City. The decision came after a lawsuit was filed against the city by Tahoe Hemp LLC last month after it was denied permission to grow hemp on now open space land.

City officials say permission was denied because growing hemp there could jeopardize the state grant that paid for the property. Supervisors are expected to further discuss the topic at a planning workshop Feb. 27.
