Authorities say a 27-year-old man killed his mother and drove about 200 miles through the Mojave Desert before he was fatally shot by police on I-15 at the state line.
The incident stranded motorists for up to 19 hours and backed up traffic for miles on the main route between Southern California and Las Vegas.

Officials say deputies discovered the body of a slain woman and alerted other authorities to watch for an "armed and dangerous" man.
They say her son was found on the Interstate 15 near the Nevada line and officers from both states opened fire. The investigation closed the freeway's northbound lanes.
