Nevada Initiative Spurs Proposals For 2,000 Housing Units

RENO, Nev. (AP) — An initiative in Nevada to build more affordable housing has spurred proposals for more than 2,000 new housing units in Reno, but city officials say not all have been deemed affordable.

KRNV-TV reported Wednesday that the deadline for the "1,000 homes in 120 days" initiative ended this week with almost double the initial target for 1,000 units.

Officials say the city received proposals for 2,038 units, including townhomes, apartments, student housing and multi-family homes.

Reno City Council officials say they started the initiative in October as a pilot program to incentivize the increase in development of affordable homes and stabilize rents.
