Report: Key Freeway Interchange In Reno Could Cost $223M

Nevada transportation officials are raising the price tag for renovating a key Reno freeway interchange by nearly 50% and are giving up $95 million in federal funding to accept an unsolicited single-source bid.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the Nevada Department of Transportation is asking the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County to let it amend plans for the busy web of roads connecting Interstate 80 with U.S. Highway 395 and Interstate 580.

Transportation officials say the revision will increase project costs from $150 million to $223 million and replace lost federal money with state funds.
