Nevada Governor Pans Counties' Request For Area 51 Event Aid

Nevada's governor says the state might not reimburse two rural counties seeking disaster relief aid over "Storm Area 51" events that attracted less-than-anticipated crowds in September.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Gov. Steve Sisolak on Tuesday panned requests from Lincoln and Nye counties.

The governor says Lincoln County approved event permits over state opposition and that taxpayers shouldn't be on the hook to pay. Officials and organizers prepared for 30,000 people to arrive in response to an internet hoax about finding aliens.

But the number peaked at an estimated 3,500 in two remote towns. Officials in both counties declared emergencies in advance, fearing unruly crowds.
