It follows Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo's decision on Wednesday to halt what's known as the 287(g) program at the 3,100-bed Clark County Detention Center.

The sheriff pointed to a Sept. 27 ruling by a federal judge in California prohibiting the use of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold requests called "detainers" in states that don't specifically authorize civil immigration arrests.

Nevada doesn't have a law like that.

Police haven't said whether the 287(g) program remains in effect at other jails in the state.
