Two businessmen who have been indicted on campaign finance law violations made large contributions to Nevada candidates, including Republican gubernatorial hopeful Adam Laxalt and former Republican attorney general candidate Wes Duncan, according to the Nevada Independent.
A grand jury in New York handed down the indictments Thursday for Florida-based businessmen Lev Parnas, who was born in Ukraine, and Igor Fruman, who was born in Belarus. The two are associated with President Donald Trump's private lawyer Rudy Giuliani and a re connected to the House's current impeachment inquiry.
According to the indictment, Parnas and Fruman, along with two other men, made plans to start a recreational marijuana business. The indictment said the men discussed ways to gain favor with power brokers in Nevada.
Laxalt did not respond to inquiries from the Nevada Independent. Duncan said he returned the contribution when he learned of the indictment and said he had no idea Fruman was acting unlawfully.
