ELKO, Nev. (AP) — The lawyer for a northeast Nevada man accused of trying to run over an Elko police officer says prosecutors won't be able to prove he was driving the pickup truck.
A trial expected to last two weeks began in Elko District Court Wednesday for 38-year-old Tony Pressler of Spring Creek on multiple charges stemming from the Dec. 21 incident. They include attempted murder with a deadly weapon, eluding a police officer, burglary and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.
Officer Joshua Taylor says he was responding to a report of domestic violence when Pressler fled the scene in a pickup, then accelerated toward him when he got out of his patrol car.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports defense attorney Diana Hillewaert said during opening arguments she'll present evidence that shows Pressler was not the driver of the vehicle.
