LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada school district has approved a new employee contract after a Las Vegas teacher's union threatened to strike.
The Clark County School District Board of Trustees officially ended a months-long fight with Clark County Education Association over teacher salary after approving a $3 billion two-year contract for licensed educators.
The contract extends through July 1, 2021 and includes a 3% pay increase, 2% step increase for each of the two years and a 4% increase in monthly health care contributions.
Board officials also approved a $5,400 salary increase for eligible teachers who advance in the payment system after completing three years of professional development.
Officials say the amended contract is expected to cost the district an additional $124.5 million over the next two years.
