Workers Closing Las Vegas Strip For Walkway Bridge Construction

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Work crews plan to close one of the busiest stretches of the Las Vegas Strip overnight for construction of a new pedestrian overpass.

County officials say Las Vegas Boulevard will be closed to vehicles between Tropicana and Harmon avenues from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday while crews pour the concrete deck for the new walkway.

Officials say a special detour on each half the boulevard will offer access for customers and employees to reach businesses between Harmon and Park avenues.

The new bridge is expected to open in mid-October. It'll allow an estimated 10,000 pedestrians a day to walk between the Park MGM development and the Showcase Mall.

It will be the 17th pedestrian bridge opened since 1995 along the casino-lined resort corridor.
