Reid Wants Senate Rules Changed To Speed Up Climate Change Bills

Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is urging Democrats in the Senate to focus on climate change.

Reid told the Daily Beast senators should eliminate the rules on filibusters.

Filibustering is a tactic used to stall votes in the Senate. To end a filibuster, it takes 60 votes.

Changing the rules would make it easier for Democrats and Republicans to get votes on legislation that isn’t popular with their opposition.

But it would also allow legislation on climate change to move forward more quickly.

Reid said nothing right now is more important than dealing with climate change. Reid’s comments come as the Democratic Party debates what to prioritize should it take power following the 2020 elections.
